Passivhaus Offices
The most energy efficient offices ever built in the UK? We think so and with good reason. Explore further to find out how and why...
What are PassivHaus Offices? Some clever technology and common sense measures to ensure these are as energy efficient as possible...
Common sense means;
- Massive Insulation - as much as practical - eg walls and roof 70% plus better than usual.
- Exposed thermal mass - soaks up the heat of the day leaving the air/occupants cooler.
- Solar shading - ie Breis Soleil & automated window blinds that you can see out 'past'...due to slat angles.
- Triple glazed argon filled heavy duty German windows (even more energy efficient that traditional brickwork).
- Airtightness (to ensure the building envelope is properly sealed) some 7 to 10 times better than even the latest UK B'regs standards.
- Build quality which is the key to ensure the PassivHaus standard can be met.
Clever technology means;
- Shock thermal Connectors - to minimise the 'old inevitable' loss of energy by conductivity
- Fibreglass reinforced lightweight concrete (1st time ever used in the UK) to minimise energy simply 'leaking out'
- Heat Recovery ventilation system (HRVS) to 'scrub' the air clean and ensure 80% of the heat is retained not lost as is usual.
- WCR's unique Energy Monitoring system. Already in use elsewhere and pays for itself by showing where/when energy is consumed, to allow the occupier to see how to become as efficient as possible.
